A Word of Caution re: Facebook
Recent technological advances now provide Facebook with the
ability to more readily identify violations of the Facebook Promotions
Guidelines and other Facebook policies. Gowlings recently became aware
of a rule in the Developer Principles and Policies (which
unfortunately was not included in the Promotions Guidelines), which
effectively prohibits offering additional entries (or other
incentives) in any promotion for sharing information with another person
on Facebook. This has been a common practice in many recent promotions
(e.g. "earn a bonus entry by clicking here to share information with
your friends on Facebook"), but Facebook is now actively putting a stop
to this practice. Please ensure that future promotions (not just
Facebook promotions) do not offer additional entries (or other
incentives) for sharing information about the contest via Facebook.
